24 April 2009
Today was probably the busiest to date. We started by driving for what seemed like and hour to I think a child focused community development center (CFCDC). We were greeted by children lined up in two rows who welcomed us with flowers both in bouquet form and in the form of petals thrown at ourfaces.
We had tea there also and I ate the best orange that I've had in 2 years, they were both very memorable.
After tea we visited a village self help group. This is sort of like a coop of women who get together to help each other and their communities. We saw some of the projects they are working on like installing pipe wells vs the old open pit variety, proper latrines, and rug making. Amy bought a rug and I should have but didn't. Such are regrets.
Next we visited some of the projects the coops invested in; 2 restaurants (mix sugar [maybe honey], flower and oil and then drop into boiling water) and a hotel that can accommodate 300 people, though I'm not sure in what condition. We also paid a quick visit to a school.
Then we ate lunch: curry chicken with rice eaten in the traditional Bangladesh manner; no silverware. This has been hard for me as my parents spent worked hared to make sire I knew how to use a fork and I hate to let my parents down. Boy was it spicy though. My eyes were watering which made some of the people laugh.
After lunch we interviewed a couple people for our videos. Then we came home for tea (4th that day) but left quickly for a hindu temple ear by built in 1704-1753. The carved detail on the building was amazing.
We stopped at the market on the way home and the girls bought sawar suits and I bought a long shirt both are some what traditional clothing of the area.
There is a digdiggi (lizard) making noise at me and it is dinner time. Tomorrow we leave at 6:10 sharp. No fun.
