Dear Family and Friends:
For most of my life I have had an acute awareness of a calling in my life to missions. It began when I was five years old during a Sunday evening service at our church. A missionary couple shared how God was using them in the mission field and at the end of their presentation one of them spoke about the importance for future generations to become involved in missionary work. I remember kneeling at the altar that night in response to the invitation and promising God I would go where he called me.
So far that promise has kept me relatively close to home and most often it simply required me to be an example of Christ's love and mercy to those around me. Recently, however, I believe that God has called me to something deeper.
Several missionaries have spoken at our church in the last few months, and through them God has rekindled a desire in my heart to use the gifts and abilities that He's given me to serve Him overseas.
Beginning this June I will spend a year volunteering for the Church of the Nazarene in their communications center in Büsingen, Switzerland. While this will be my home base, I will spend a great deal of my time traveling throughout Europe and Asia, making short documentaries to show people all over the world how God is at work in this area.
God is doing incredible things all over the world, and I am excited that I will be able to see even a few of them, but I can't do this on my own; I need your help.
First, and most importantly, I need your prayers. Without them, this next year will be a failure and I might as well stay home. I have included a prayer card that you can place in a visible location to help you remember to keep me in your prayers.
Second, I need your encouragement. I will be a stranger in a strange land, away from friends and family. I would really appreciate an email every now and then to let me know what is going on in your lives.
Lastly, I need financial support. Unfortunately Switzerland is one of the most expensive places in the world to live. In order to offset some costs the Church is providing me with a place to live, but I still need to raise $11,000 in support for the coming year. You can donate once, monthly, or however you feel led. Donations should be made out to “the Church of the Nazarene” with "Steven Vredenburgh--Mission Corps: Eurasia Communications" in the memo line. Checks can be sent to:
General Treasurer; Church of the Nazarene
Global Ministry Center
17001 Prairie Star Parkway
Lenexa, KS 66220
While I am overseas, I will keep you informed with regular updates of my projects on my web page: www.stevenvredenburgh.com. You can also find a picture of the included prayer card for you to download and print should you want more than one.
Thank you for all your prayers and support,
Steven Vredenburgh
